Candidate Information and Instructions
The Town of Dillon partnered with the other towns in Summit County to hold a Candidate Information Session on December 11. Watch the session recording - How to Run 101 - Watch the Meeting. If you are interested in running for Council, this would be a great video to watch to learn about what the roles and responsibilities of the position and learn about the application/election process.
Qualifications for Office
All candidates, when nominated:
- Must be at least eighteen years of age
- Must be a resident of Dillon for twelve consecutive months preceding the date of the election
- Must be a registered voter
- Have not been convicted of embezzlement, bribery, perjury, solicitation of bribery, or subornation of perjury

- The Candidate packets for the 2026 election will be available at Dillon Town Hall on January 6, 2026 at 8 a.m.

Candidate Instructions
- Nomination Petitions must be circulated and signed by at least twenty-five (25) Dillon registered voters. It is recommended that more that twenty-five (25) signatures be obtained in the event that some are invalid.
- After the nomination petition has been circulated.
- The candidate must complete the Acceptance of Nomination on the back of the petition, sign and have it notarized.
- The petition circulator must complete the Affidavit of Circulator on the back of the petition, sign and have it notarized.
- Nomination Petitions must be filed with the Town Clerk by 5pm on January 26, 2026.
Nomination Petitions
Nomination Petitions will be available at the Town Clerk's office and will be included in the Candidate Packets.
Each registered elector signing a petition shall also print his or her name, include the street address of his or her place of residence and date. Signatures and addresses will be verified to count towards the 25 signatures. Checking the validity of an individual signature will be the responsibility of the Town Clerk.
For the April 2026 election, a registered elector shall not sign more than three (3) nomination petitions for the Town Council Candidates and sign only one (1) for the Mayoral candidate.
Election Precinct and Petitions
There is only one election precinct for all regular and special elections of the Town. In order to be valid, a petition must contain a minimum of twenty-five (25) signatures from registered voters residing in Dillon. This excludes unincorporated areas of Dillon Valley, Summerwood, Summit Cove and Keystone. A registered elector shall not sign more than one (1) nomination petition for a Mayoral Candidate and shall not sign more than three (3) nomination petitions for Town Council candidates.
Order of Names on Ballot
The order in which candidate names will appear on the ballot will be determined by lottery after all nomination petitions are filed. The drawing will be held at Dillon Town Hall in Council Chambers and will be recorded. Candidates and members of the public are invited to attend and witness the drawing. The 2026 election drawing will occur at 4:45pm on Monday February 2, 2026.
Campaign Advertising
It is not a requirement by law that candidates identify who paid for campaign advertising - "paid for by the Committee to Elect Jane Doe." This type of identification is informative but optional.
Voter Registration Lists and Mailing Labels
Voter registration lists and mailing labels are available from the Summit County Clerk's office. All requests for lists or labels must be made in writing and be emailed to clerk@summitcountyco.gov, mailed to: P.O. Box 1538, in Breckenridge, CO 80424 or faxed to 970-453-3540.
Compensation
The Mayor is compensated $1,400 per month ($16,800 annually)
Town Council members are compensated $750 per month ($9,000 annually)
Town Council Meetings & Agendas
Town Council meetings for 2026 will be held on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at Dillon Town Hall, 275 Lake Dillon Drive. Town Council work sessions are held prior to the council meetings, typically beginning at 4:30 p.m. Additional meetings or appointments to boards will be scheduled outside the regular Town Council Meetings.
